Welcome Baby Pi to Carolina Country Acres

Joyce Lewis of Safe Horse Training

Joyce Lewis is a great trainer for our young ones as they start out.

Pi was born on National Pi Day, March 14th, 2015. Pi (Greek letter “π”) is the symbol used in mathematics to represent a constant — the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter — which is approximately 3.14159.  We are so very excited about this addition to our farm.

Pi’s father, is Stallion of Alpine by Hidden Hill Farm.  Alpine is known for his gentleman like demeanor and stunning movement.  He is a  1999 stallion, 17h – by Alcatraz out of Kerrie Mon Amie by Consul.

In this picture, our equine behavioral trainer, Joyce Lewis of Safe Horse Training, is imprinting Pi. Imprinting is an essential first step as soon as the foal is born to help create a well-trained adult horse.  The approach is to gently massage over all parts of the foal; on his body, his ears, his mouth, his feet, under his tail- everywhere while in a relaxed environment. The foal starts to learn from the moment he is born, and imprinting helps the foal have confidence that humans are safe and trustworthy.
